Publishing new resources to complement ‘Stryd y Rhifau’ books from the popular series ‘Cymeriadau Difyr’

We are delighted to invite you to Siop Cwlwm's stand at the National Eisteddfod on Tuesday the 5th of August at 10am as we launch new resources to accompany the ‘Stryd y Rhifau’ book series.

‘Stryd y Rhifau’ was published by Peniarth in 2018 as a series of 21 Welsh storybooks focusing on number characters, to aid young learners' recognition of specific numbers in a fun and exciting way. The books are suitable for learners on Progression Step 1, with focus on individual numbers from 0-10, to slightly more challenging books on halving, doubling, ordinals, and problem solving.

This series offers opportunities for budding mathematicians to gain confidence as they think mathematically using various numeracy concepts in response to real-world problems.

Through funding from Adnodd and the Welsh Government, Peniarth has developed the series further by creating resources including activities and rap songs by poet Aneirin Karadog to introduce numbers 0-10 in a fun, exciting and visual way for the learners.

Come and enjoy a talk by the author of the series Manon Steffan Ros, the composer of the raps Aneirin Karadog and Catrin Evans-Thomas, project manager and co-author of the original series. There will be an opportunity to watch the raps live and see examples of the new activities that will be available for free on Hwb for practitioners to use from September onwards.

Catrin Evans-Thomas, project manager explained, “We are delighted to launch these brand new activities to accompany the books that have long gained popularity in Welsh schools. The idea was developed following feedback from teachers asking for more numeracy resources to facilitate the teaching of the new curriculum, so it's exciting that we've been able to collaborate with specialist numeracy teachers as well as two of Wales' children's literature greats to create them.”

Following the talk there will be a chance to purchase ‘Stryd y Rhifau’ individual books signed by the author Manon Steffan Ros on the University of Wales Trinity Saint David stand at 11am.
